Swaps and Things

So here's the deal. Several of you have emailed me and told me that you are reading my blog still, even though I am no longer active on the Scrappy Chicks forum. I hope that this will make its journey to the intended recipients.. if it doesn't apply to you, please disregard.

When Scrapbookers Dream closed, Heather and Christina both sent me ALL OF THE SWAPS that they collected from the stores - not just the ones addressed to me. I was able to disperse some to Kerry O'Brien and Shawn Behrends for distribution to KSD and others. The rest fell into my lap to ship to the people they needed to go to. I spent a week driving to the farthest reaches of this city to make sure things got delivered - Kansas, Independence, Blue Springs.. I didn't mind this. I was happy to get the stuff delivered to where it needed to go. The things that I didn't actually deliver, I packaged up to mail.

The first round of swaps that I mailed totalled over $40. Several people emailed me and offered to send money for their postage, but honestly, people - it doesn't make any sense at all for you to spend $.39 on a stamp to send me a check for $1.50.

In the middle of all of this, I spent time taking care of grant money for the church, preparing for classes at Captured Memories, working my regular full-time job, being with my family and running my house. About a week ago, someone used a .22-caliber rifle to shoot out my husband's back window on his car during a domestic dispute (they weren't targeting us). This cost us $200 to repair. They also shot one of his tires - another $75.

This week, because of these expenses, I have had to dig deep to make sure that our electricity, water and phone stay turned on. Forty dollars doesn't seem like a lot until you're in this particular position.

LOOK. I'm not asking for anyone's pity, here - just a little bit of understanding that these swaps are not first and foremost on my mind this week. They have, however, all been mailed as of yesterday. I have received several emails from people who are VERY upset about not having received their swaps yet, and I apologize sincerely to you.

The only thing I can say to you is that I have not EVER flaked on a swap. Please keep this in mind.

Thanks for your understanding, and I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

Wow Sara, car getting shot--that sounds really scary! Thank you for taking care of all the swaps left in limbo from SD closing. That sounds like it was a HUGE responsibility. Hopefully, everyone who participated will be grateful to receive their swap stuff. Who knows where it would have ended up if you hadn't taken it on!

Hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!
