I wonder sometimes if I would be Catholic at all if it weren't for the Jesuits. The first time I met Father Matt, who is the priest at my church, he told me, "We're pretty much your last stop on the way out of the Catholic church. If you can't make it work here, you're just not cut out to be Catholic. We're the Catholics that the other Catholics protest."
That's all it took to make me a believer. I love the Jesuits. Historically, they're the heretics. They question, they require proof, they are incapable of acting on faith alone. They are scholars and thinkers. And God help you if you stick them in a room with the Franciscans. Just back away slowly and wait for the explosion...
Just a reflection on my faith. I'm looking forward to mass this morning, and thought I'd sit down and figure out why.. and there you have it. I love being part of a Jesuit congregation.
