Early Start to a Career?

My father-in-law, whom I absolutely adore, generally takes Zion on Saturdays. The first thing on their agenda is a trip to the grocery store.. Joe (my FIL) likes to use Zion to pick up women. Ok, not really "pick them up," cause he's (mostly) happily married, but I think he just likes the attention. So, he has apparently gotten Zion accustomed to riding in the "race car" shopping carts - he LOVES them.

A few weeks ago, we made a trip to the Price Chopper in Brookside. As I'm shopping, I'm not really paying a whole lot of attention to Zion - he's seatbelted in and not really going anywhere, so I'm thinking he can't get into a whole lot of trouble. I was wrong.

When we arrived at the check-out counter, I realized Zion had been doing some shopping of his own.. apparently, anything that was on his level was fair game. We ended up with some Lucky Charms (I generally buy mini wheats.. we don't do sugary cereal), and I decided I would just make sure I kept a closer eye on him.

Tonight, Mike, Zion and I headed to Price Chopper in Brookside again (you'd think they'd see us coming by now and batten down the hatches, right?). We're shopping, Zion's riding in the fire truck, everything's going very well.. we made it to the check-out counter in about fifteen minutes. As soon as we pulled the cart up, Zion made a grab for a Milky Way bar.

I was prepared this time. I had stashed some Spongebob fruit snacks in the cart when he wasn't looking. Mike says, "Here, let me trade you." He gives Zion the fruit snacks and grabs the Milky Way. I pushed the cart up before he could snatch anything else.

We paid, we left.

We get out to the car, and Mike says, "I'll put the groceries in the trunk if you put Zion in his car seat." He bends over, unbuckles him from the fire truck, picks him up, and three candy bars fall out. Zion had been sitting on them.

WHERE DID HE GET THEM?!? I SWEAR I was watching him.. I mean REALLY watching him! Is this indicative of a future career? Cause seriously.. how do you break him of THIS habit?!?

Anyone has any advice, you know where to find me.

Oh Sara, I'm so laughing with you. We have a similar story that involves M&Ms and Trinity.

the candy Isle is the down fall of those fun carts, everything is hand level, and you are busy unloading your cart!

Maggie once took a hat from Baby Gap. I was absolutely MORTIFIED! She was in her stroller and they were right there just waiting for her to grab one. I was totally prepared for security to take my tiny little thief away. ;)

Sara, so laughing with you! I remember when Ally was about 3 she took a cheapy little ring from a christian bookstore. Of course I didn't realize until we got home and I thought I was about to die. Of course we went back the next day and she returned it. The wierd thing is, the lady there seemed shocked that we returned it.
