New Beginnings

My father-in-law (the poet) asked me once what my favorite season was, and I told him fall.

He said, "Now why does that not surprise me? Your favorite season is the season where everything dies."

I said, "It's the harvest season! It's a time of celebration and thanks! It's not just about death!"

He conceded, but it struck us both as funny.

Most people get stir-crazy in the spring - "spring-cleaning" - but this time of the year is when I go nuts. I kick into gear around mid-September cleaning, organizing, baking, and generally getting ready to settle in for the winter.

This year, the "coming alive" part of the season was delayed due to kit issues and the crop last weekend, but last night I found it! All it took was this magazine (and if you have a minute, read that little blurb on the home page - it's pretty darned inspirational, too), this magazine (oh, Celine Navarro, how you rock my artsy world), and some blog surfing, and *POOF* I'm ready to de-clutter-ify the hizz-ouse, ya'll.

Mike called in the middle of my ADHD-fueled brainstorming session and listened to me rant about taking the doors off of the kitchen cabinets (what will we put up in their place? he asked; nothing! I happily explained), putting shutters on the bedroom windows (but what about the curtains you spent $200 on? he asked; hmmm.. scrap room maybe?), replacing the curtains in the living room and dining room with some fabulous hand-made creations that you know I'll never get around to actually making, painting the living room black (with silvery-gray trim!), and before ANY of this starts clearing out EVERYTHING - corners, shelves, the "underneaths" of everything.

He remains cheerfully optimistic. I'll let you know how that goes.

I also begin work this evening on those wedding pictures I've been talking about for four years now. Yes, it's actually going to happen.

I'm gettin' my wedding scrap on.

Also.

My friend Erika, knowing how much I love coffee mugs, got me an awesome fall-themed mug and the cutest purple Halloween hand towel you've ever seen.

I hoped this would take care of my coffee mug fix for the month, but then I wandered into Starbucks. Are they ever going to stop selling these mugs? I'VE RESISTED THE URGE TO BUY ONE FOR MONTHS! I'm gonna end up spending ten freaking dollars on this stupid mug before it's all said and done.

Addictions are a bitch.

Um, yeah, I've been in the cleaning mode myself...corner cobwebs, killer dustbunnies hiding beneath beds, throwing away ten years worth of stuff, etc... Hard work but it sure does lighten your heart.

Love the mug! Love your blog entries...just so darn stinkin' fun to read! :)
