..the more it kills me to realize, and admit, that my grandmother was right. Jamie Lee Curtis wrote this:
"We were the generation who applauded every move they made. Every step they took. 'Good climbing, Brandon' was our hue and cry. We were raised by people who didn't 'understand' us and now we don't 'understand' why our children are so messed up."
She's right. My grandmother has said for years that children need encouragement, but it's not all about positive reinforcement. They need to understand that their actions have consequences. They don't need positive reinforcement for everything they do that ISN'T bad - but they do need to be told about everything they do that IS.
Jamie Lee's editorial is in response to the Paris Hilton fiasco. She said it was heart-wrenching watching her scream for her mother, but she blamed Kathy Hilton for putting her in that position.
I have to agree with her.
